About the role:We're growing at an incredible pace, and we need a hands-on Legal Counsel to join our team. You'll be instrumental in managing corporate legal, contractual and regulatory activities across our Group locations (NL, UK, Canada and Poland). Your main responsibilities will include:
- Provide expert legal advice: Advise internal stakeholders on a wide range of legal topics, including corporate governance, financial regulations, and data protection.
- Manage commercial agreements: Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of a diverse range of commercial contracts, including customer agreements, supplier contracts, and strategic partnership deals, ensuring favorable terms and risk mitigation.
- Scalable legal infrastructure: Act as the primary legal point of contact for contractual topics, developing and implementing efficient and scalable commercial legal support processes to keep pace with our rapid growth.
- Regulatory & strategic advisory: Proactively monitor and interpret evolving financial services regulations (e.g., PSD2, E-Money Directive, MiCAR), ensuring the company's full compliance across all expanding Group locations.
- Corporate Transactions & IP Protection: Provide legal support for corporate finance initiatives, including fundraising activities, and manage the company's intellectual property portfolio, including trademarks and other proprietary assets.
What we expect from you:We're a team with a strong bias for action and continuous improvement. To thrive here, you'll need to demonstrate:
- Advanced Law Degree (preferably from a European University), with excellent academic credentials and professional experience;
- 5+ years of experience working as a lawyer in or with the financial industry (preferably within the payment services industry);
- Excellent (English) communication (written and verbal) skills and interpersonal skills, and adept at working with cross-department colleagues;
- A hands-on approach to our business as usual tasks while we scale, and always ready to jump in and do whatever needs to be done in an enthusiastic, proactive, and resourceful manner, and a strong work ethic with a high degree of accountability and organisation;
- Be a self-starter, capable of working autonomously with minimal supervision, but also a team player at heart;
- An attitude and evidence of excellence. Not just saying, but showing in your everyday behaviours, a desire and necessity to continually improve us and yourself;
- Experience with the cryptocurrency market is a very significant advantage;
