About the Role
We’re looking for an Associate Legal Counsel to be the first addition to the Legal team beyond our Head of Legal & Corporate Strategy. Based in our London office, you’ll work directly with our Head of Legal & Corporate Strategy to support both the day-to-day running of the Legal function and its growth as we scale. You’ll have the opportunity to work at a global scale across our offices in EMEA and the USA.
This is a hands-on, developmental role for someone with 1-3 PQE, who is eager to take on responsibility across contracting, governance, compliance, and legal operations, as well as supporting broader corporate strategy and operational initiatives in a high-growth Series B tech scale-up.
You’ll gain unique exposure to the leadership team, and cross-functional projects, with opportunities for growth as the business expands.
Responsibilities
Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts: SaaS / Cloud services, vendor and supplier agreements, NDAs, partnership agreements, licensing, reseller, etc.
Support product / engineering / operations on legal, regulatory or compliance matters arising from new product development.
Data protection / privacy law compliance: GDPR, etc.
Assist in corporate readiness, compliance, and policy work.
Manage risk and help the business trade off risk vs speed, keeping legal enabling not blocking.
Develop and own legal processes and workflows; help implement AI tooling and contract lifecycle systems.
Work closely with teams such as Sales, Client Success, Finance, and Product through the contracting lifecycle.
Collaborate on strategic projects and operational initiatives alongside the Head of Legal & Corporate Strategy (e.g., cross-functional execution, governance improvements).
Collaborating cross-functionally with internal stakeholders across business, Marketing, People etc. to ensure legal alignment.
Required Skills & Experience
Qualified lawyer, with 1-3 years PQE (post-qualification experience) in a law firm or in-house, preferably with exposure to commercial / corporate / tech agreements.
Strong drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced / changing environment with less supervision; ability to prioritise effectively.
Good commercial awareness: able to understand business trade-offs and suggest pragmatic legal solutions.
Strong communication and stakeholder management: able to explain legal concepts clearly to non-lawyers.
Attention to detail and high standards of accuracy.
Curiosity about AI tooling and efficiency in legal operations.
Nice To Haves
Experience with startup / venture-funded companies.
Knowledge of regulatory issues relevant to AI and data privacy.
Experience with international / cross-border legal issues.
Familiarity with legal technologies or contract management tools.
Experience in legal operations, corporate strategy, or cross-functional projects.
Why Join Us?
You’ll be part of a small, high-impact legal team at a fast-scaling company, with exposure to both legal and strategic business work. This role is unique: you’ll not only help shape how a modern legal function operates, but also contribute to corporate strategy, governance, and operational alignment across the business. You’ll work closely with the Head of Legal & Corporate Strategy, with opportunities for development and progression as Protex AI scales globally.
